Our Story

Our story begins over a year ago when we decided to move to New Zealand. We sold our house, quit our jobs and said “good bye” to family and friends. While in New Zealand, we met some amazing people who showed us what a CrossFit community can be like. When we returned to Canada, we decided to pursue our dream  to serve and build the Kamloops community by opening our own gym. Kamloops CrossFit Apostle is the realization of our dream to create a place where people of all walks of life can challenge themselves and each other, in the pursuit of fitness. CrossFit has taught us to become better and stronger as people, especially our mental toughness and we believe that part of that is due to the supportive community. Our motto is that “as iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another,” meaning that together we make each other better.

As a Nurse I see patients everyday who are de-condition and sick. I decided I wanted to be a part of a solution that wasn’t just putting a band aid on the problem. CrossFit allows me to help people make positive, healthy changes to their lives and be a part of a happy community.

I was introduced to CrossFit in 2011 at Coach Monica’s birthday party. I owe a lot to that birthday party as CrossFit has become a big part of my life. The sport has really filled the competitive void from competing in hockey, running, triathlon, and mountain biking. For the past several years, I’ve been fortunate enough to train at NC Fit (Norcal CrossFit) when I lived in the Bay Area. It was there that I really developed a passion for the sport and the community. I’ve since completed the Level 1 Certificate course and began coaching at NC Fit. Coaching is a passion of mine because seeing people get out of their comfort zones and achieve their goals is very rewarding.

“I have been training in CrossFit as an athlete since 2012 and as a trainer since 2013. My time in affiliates has been split between Kamloops/abroad in the winters and firefighting in the summer.
My training background consists mostly of performance training for team sports. I played both football and rugby throughout high school and continued on to junior football with the Kamloops Broncos and 1st Division Men’s rugby with the Kamloops Rugby Club. Playing for these teams, I had the opportunity to work with experienced strength and conditioning coaches at an early stage in my athletic life.
My current focus is mostly on the classic Olympic lifts(the snatch and the clean & jerk) where I compete at the provincial level. In the past two years I have placed 6th and 5th in the provincial championships and was a member of Team BC for the Canadian Western Championships.
Training for these sports put a large focus into the traditional “power lifts” such as; the squat, deadlift, and benchpress. As a trainer I feel it is important to emphasize training to correct physical imbalances and build the core strength necessary to support your goals and lifelong health.”
